    you don’t catch …
you don’t catch diabetes by eating lots of sweets. you develop diabetes when you have too much body fat, especially central obesity. fat blocks the door way for insulin. causing fewer insulin to enter and break the sugar for energy, thus the increase in “unbroken” sugar levels and symptoms of tiredness, easy fatigability etc.

How does someone catch diabetes? Too much sugar or, too less sugar?

    Thanks.

Sorry… I was talking to the whole board. To help educate others. Guess that is NOT how it works not how none. My son says if one more person asks hm if he should “eat that” they may get it in the face with a paintball gun. But..

dude, i know what diabetes is both type 1 and type 2 is considering i have type 1 you don’t need to give me a lecture on it!!

    Type 1 never goes …
Type 1 never goes away. Ask your doctor at your next visit. Many type 2′s start on insulin to get the sugars under control that build up over a long period of time; as high sugers will kill. Type 2′s produces insulin but thier body does not use it correctly. Type 1 is an auto ammunine disease and they no longer produce insulin. Needs shots and a lot of care. You learn real fast about the two differant types of diabetes when it hits home. Again just ask at your Dr. : ) or fine info on line. : )

    I would ask your …
I would ask your doctor next time you or a family memeber is in need of care i.e infection, broken bone, cancer. If you trust the doctor that is treating you or your family member; Ask about type 1 and type 2. Also I stand corrected; people with type 2 DO NOT have to be over weight. Always ask question and do not take someones word on things; that is lazy,But you have to do the work too. Research. There is not a doctor around the world who will disagree about type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

I know dude thats what I was referring to when I said remission.

  16. MrMuggsthepug says:

    This is called the …
This is called the “honeymoon period”. Many with type 2 start on insulin and once the surgers are under control insulin may not be needed. Age, anti body test, and examination can dx which diabetes a person has. An over weight person who is 16 or older most likely hase type 2. Type 1′s ususally are under the age of 30, normal or under weight when first dx. It is just not black and white in the begining for some. But in time it becomes all to clear.

  17. wilthemil543 says:

    just because you …
just because you don’t need insulin doesn’t neccesarily mean you don’t have t1 because i was diagnosed with t1 almost 6 months ago and am in sort of remission where i don’t need insulin but eventually will in a few months or a year

    Ms. Berry may be …
Ms. Berry may be right … I was originally mis-diagnosed as a T1. When I asked for an insulin test, the doctors apologized and re-classified me as a T2. 3 mo. later, I had weaned off the insulin. So, if I had not asked for the insulin test, the same thing that Ms. Berry is proclaiming is what happened to me … Also, it is financially beneficial for the medical community to convince us that there is no cure for type 1 — just like they tried to convince me that there is no cure for Type 2.

Supposedly halle berry went from type one to type two.

  20. AnatomaniaK says:

    type 2, insulin …
type 2, insulin resistance. the regular insulin amount doesn’t suffice.
