) I’m not sure she’s ignoring her emotions and feelings or suggesting others should do so. After all, especially in the West, we tend to ‘think our emotions’. It’s why people like Byron Katie can have such a positive effect on many folks. And while there’s truth to the theory that “emotional traumas and shocks” can cause illness, after years of struggling with illness myself, I’m unsure it’s a particularly useful paradigm for full recovery. She was lucky enough to be a fairly successful working actor who has (had? Not sure of the current state) health insurance due to that. She also mentions in her film that she sold her house soon after her diagnosis, giving her a good amount of money on hand. Also because she’s not getting chemotherapy or radiation hasn’t racked up the huge amount of medical bills they cost.

It is not bad for everyone gets cancer! I’m an 18 year survivor of leukemia and I love the fact that I had it because it drives me, it gives me a sense of direction in life. I love my scars; I have one on my thigh, another on my neck, and a third one on my breast and I think they are just the sexist things ever. Every patient and survivor deals with it differently. I chose the happy and positive approach.
